EDUCATION PLATFORM

The education of our youth is one of the most important challenges our country faces. The children of today are the leaders of tomorrow. It is our job to ensure that the next generation of leaders have access to high quality education, no matter their background. To achieve that goal, I propose ending teacher tenure. Teacher tenure allows underperforming teachers to stay employed simply because they have been in the job for a number of years. By ending teacher tenure, I will ensure that there is more competition among teachers. Competition is the root of success; when teachers’ employability is directly related to their performance, it will maximize their performance. For those that are unable to attend good public schools and are unable to afford private schools, I propose a limited voucher system. This gives students living under a certain income level a chance to benefit from federal funds to attend private school. Vouchers also ensure not just the most affluent students benefit and, in some cases, actually save the government money.
